Fly Fishing Club – Some Facts And Some Myths
I have always been a fisherman. I do not know it, but judging from my passion from fishing, I think I was a fisherman right from the time I was conceived, not the time I was born. However, it took me some 25 years to get around and become a member of a leading fly fishing club. I had known about the fly fishing clubs in my area for a long time. But somehow, I thought that you will need to have certain hi-fi caliber to be considered as material for membership, so I never even tried to get in. There Go The Myths Myth No 1 – I do know how many of you out there, thinking in the same lines as me. This to clear this myth once and for all – you do not need be “special” to be part of any fly fishing club. A normal fisherman, one like me and you, who love fishing and would be happy speaking and listening about fishing, can become a member any day. Hence, all those who think you have to be among the best (champions and stuff) or have a financial base, or have a boat, etc. please stand corrected. Fact - The clubs are a more or less a place of meetings, sharing of experience, planning of tournaments, and in general a great place to be in. Join a cub today if you have one in your neighborhood. If not, why not start one! Myth No 2 – there is no excitement in a fly fishing club unless there is a tournament. You could not be further from truth with this assumption. Fact - Actually, the tournaments form only a very small part of the fun that a fly fishing club regularly has. There are fishing trips, organized round the year where like-minded fishermen get together for a special fishing trip. Beginners are welcome too. In this way there is a excellent avenue for fun and a great opportunity to learn from those who are more experienced, or simply doing things differently (sometimes with excellent results). Myth no 3 – Unless you have a boat you cannot participate in the fishing trips or tournaments. Fact – the fly fishing clubs are actually the best place where people can pool resources and enjoy the fun of fishing at the minimum personal cost. Hence, those who do not have a boat, either share with those who have one, or pool together with others and hire one. Both ways, you will get to learn boat pattern of fishing without having to have your own boat.
